The words we use

    column
A field that arrived with your imported data. name and description in your CSV are columns.
    field
A value a contract added. allergens is a field, because nothing in your CSV had it until a contract worked it out.
    contract
The rule for one field: its allowed values with synonyms, one or many, normal or safety, a confidence threshold, a version.
    allowed values
The list a contract may choose from. A run can never return anything else, so a typo cannot become a new allergen.
    definition
What one allowed value means in your catalog, with examples that count as it and phrases that look like it but don't. The model reads it; so does anyone checking your contract.
    source of truth
A PDF a contract reads besides the record, such as a supplier allergen sheet. It can add a safety value on its own, and every value it touched cites its page.
    safety field
A contract whose values can be added but never quietly removed, and the only kind a caller may exclude.
    receipt
How one value was decided: by rule or model, at what confidence, under which contract version, and who approved it.
    run
One execution of a contract over a dataset.
    withheld
A record you keep out of everything that gets served. Your decision, before any caller asks.
    exclude
What a caller asks a tool to leave out. Their decision, at query time. Never confused with withheld.
    release
An immutable snapshot of the served records, their receipts and the ranking settings.
